For the first time since December 2024, the inflation rate in Saxony has risen above 3 percent again. Consumer prices in September were, on average, 3.4 percent higher than at the same time in 2025, according to the State Statistical Office. In August, the rate in the Free State of Saxony had been 2.9 percent. The price increase was particularly noticeable in fuel and energy prices. Compared to September 2025, a liter of diesel cost 45.9 percent more and a liter of gasoline cost 33.3 percent more. At the start of the heating season, prices for heating oil also rose by 48.5 percent and for propane by 22.3 percent. The trend in food prices was mixed. Fresh vegetables, including potatoes, were 9.5 percent more expensive, while fresh fruit cost 4.9 percent less and cooking fats and oils cost 15.2 percent less. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
