The Brigitte Reimann City Library has been named “Library of the Year” in the category for smaller municipalities and regions. The reason for this is its “strategic concept.”

The Hoyerswerda City Library has received the “Library of the Year” award in the category for smaller municipalities and regions. According to the German Library Association, the nationwide award comes with a prize of 7,000 euros and recognizes the “strategic concept” of the Brigitte Reimann City Library. This concept is based on “democracy, education, sustainability, and participation.”

In its statement explaining the decision, the jury noted that initiatives such as “Ask the Mayor” offer low-threshold opportunities to engage in dialogue with political decision-makers. As a result, the institution serves as an “independent venue for encounters and discourse” and also strengthens trust in democratic processes.

According to the German Library Association, since 2020 it has been awarding this prize for smaller communities in addition to the “Library of the Year” award. This award is intended for municipalities or regions with up to 50,000 residents.
