Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has warned against false expectations of absolute safety following the shooting rampage in Leipzig. "There is no such thing as one hundred percent protection", he said during a visit to the memorial site at Leipzig University's Paulinum.
The incident was "a terrible one", said Kretschmer. "All my sympathy goes out to the victims, these innocent people who were torn from their lives from one second to the next." The crime had shaken many people, precisely because Grimmaische Straße is a place where people usually move around "carefree, freely, without fear".
