Rising fuel prices are putting craft businesses in Saxony under pressure. "Trade diesel" is intended to provide relief.

In view of the persistently high fuel prices, the Saxon Trade Association is calling for the introduction of a "trade diesel" with tax relief for commercial refueling. "Logistics chains, vehicle fleets and construction machinery are almost exclusively powered by diesel," said Uwe Nostitz, President of the Saxon Crafts Association, according to a press release. "The costs are getting out of hand and are ultimately making many products and services more expensive."

Crafts businesses are worried about a slump in demand, according to Nostitz. Relief is urgently needed and the measures taken by the federal government are not enough.

The demand of the craftsmen's association is based on the so-called agricultural diesel. Companies in agriculture and forestry receive a portion of the energy tax for their diesel consumption back.
