Many Saxons are having to dig deeper and deeper into their pockets for drinking water and wastewater. The average charges for drinking water amounted to 2.35 euros per cubic meter last year, and a basic fee of 172.80 euros was also due, according to the State Statistical Office. Compared to 2022, this represents an increase of almost 17% for drinking water and 28% for basic charges.
Higher charges were also due for wastewater during this period. According to the statisticians, the average fee has risen by 15 percent since 2022 to 2.77 euros per cubic meter in 2025. The basic fee rose by 25 percent to 83.91 euros during this period.
The statisticians pointed out that the tariff structures in Saxony's municipalities are complex and varied. Last year, for example, the basic drinking water fee ranged from 38.52 euros per year to 295.32 euros per year, according to the statement from the State Statistical Office. The price range for a cubic meter of drinking water was from 1.34 euros to 3.17 euros. For wastewater, prices ranged from 0.90 euros to 6.21 euros per cubic meter. In some cases, municipalities also charged an area fee.
