Two out of five women in Saxony let their invitation to mammography screening lapse unused. Last year, a total of 163,284 women in the Free State took part in a screening, as the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony announced on request.
Saxony among the top 5 in Germany
This corresponds to a participation rate of 57.4 percent. After a decline in recent years, the pre-corona level of 2019 has thus been reached again. In a nationwide comparison, Saxony is among the top 5 with the highest participation rate.
Women who did not attend the invitations include women who have breast cancer or who are already undergoing annual curative mammography due to the presence of a family history, explained Katharina Bachmann-Bux, spokesperson for KV Saxony. Other reasons for non-participation, such as a lack of information and education, can only be speculated on.
