Funding for the Central German Center for Infection Control

Saxony is contributing 53.53 million euros toward the construction of the planned Central German Infection Control Center in Leipzig. The majority of the funds—a total of 43.53 million euros—come from the state budget, while the cabinet has allocated an additional 10 million euros from the Saxony Fund for infrastructure projects, according to the Ministry of Health. Financing agreements are to be concluded with other participating federal states. The center is scheduled to be completed in 2032.

The Infection Control Center is to be built at St. Georg Hospital in Leipzig. The hospital is already the only facility in Saxony with a special isolation ward for people with life-threatening infectious diseases such as pneumonic plague or Ebola. The new building is intended to ensure the facility’s continued operation into the future. The center will also treat patients from other federal states.
