Rocco Reitz is to replace Xaver Schlager at RB Leipzig. The midfielder has signed until 2031 and Gladbach will receive a lower transfer fee than originally agreed.

Bundesliga clubs Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig have agreed on a transfer for Rocco Reitz. According to dpa information, the 23-year-old midfielder will be transferred to Saxony for a basic transfer fee of just under 20 million euros for the new season, with bonus payments potentially increasing the sum.

"Rocco Reitz was our absolute dream player for central midfield. We are therefore delighted that the transfer has worked out and that our long-term efforts have paid off. The always transparent and fair negotiations with all parties involved should certainly be emphasized," said RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

Replacement for Schlager

Gladbach's sporting director Rouven had already announced at the end of last week that a decision would be made soon. The main issue was that Leipzig did not want to pay the transfer fee of around 25 million euros stipulated in Reitz's contract. An agreement has now been reached and Leipzig had already agreed a contract with the player until 2031. In Mönchengladbach, captain Reitz was still under contract until 2028.

Reitz is set to take over from Xaver Schlager at Leipzig. The Austrian international had announced that he would not be renewing his contract.
