Interim coach Petrik Sander has secured 1. FC Magdeburg's first home win of the season. Maximilian Breunig (75./foul penalty) and Rayan Ghrieb (90.+2) scored the goals in the 2:0 win against Preußen Münster. Magdeburg remain bottom of the table, but are now level on points with Dynamo Dresden and VfL Bochum and two points behind a non-relegation place.
"It's not about whether I'm doing anything differently, but: We had a clear plan of how we wanted to approach this and we stuck to it," said Sander after the game. Goalscorer Breunig explained about the penalty kick: "We don't have a penalty taker who is determined. I had a good feeling all day and when the whistle blew, I knew that I would take the ball."
The 64-year-old Sander, who will also be in charge of FCM on the touchline with Pascal Ibold for the DFB Cup match this Wednesday (18:00/Sky) at Bavarian regional league club FV Illertissen, refrained from making any changes after the 0-0 draw in Darmstadt. Magdeburg struggled to control the game and scored early on, but Atik's goal (7th) was disallowed for offside after VAR intervention.
