First Win: RB Leipzig Defeats Nuremberg

The RB Leipzig women's soccer team earned its first win of the season and moved up to ninth place. Coach Jonas Stephan's team defeated 1. FC Nürnberg 2-1 (1-0).

Emilia Asgeirsdottir scored the first home goal of the still-young season in the 20th minute. In the second half, the Icelandic player added another goal in the 77th minute, securing the team’s first win of the season. The Franconians’ goal in the 88th minute by Sanja Homann came too late, especially since Alexandra Lobanova was shown a yellow-red card in the final minute.

Herzog Saves Leipzig

RB started aggressively but, as in their first three games, failed to follow through on their attacks. Time and again, Asgeirsdottir tried to bring structure to her team’s attack down the left flank, and it was no coincidence that she scored the 1–0 goal. Nuremberg held their own but posed a scoring threat mainly only on corner kicks that were delivered very dangerously into the five-meter box.

In the second half, Nuremberg pressed for the equalizer. Goalkeeper Elvira Herzog was now often in the spotlight, making several crucial saves. RB rarely got near the opponent’s goal. But the Saxons ultimately decided the match with the most beautiful play of the game. Asgeirsdottir finished with a beautiful chip to make it 2–0.
