For Ole Werner, the match against former club Werder Bremen is "something special". The RB Leipzig coach does not want to be taken by surprise, even though he knows many of the players very well. "We'll see if it helps. You can always surprise people, but you have to be careful not to be surprised yourself," said the 37-year-old ahead of the Bundesliga match against the Hanseatic side this Sunday (15:30/DAZN).
Werner had to leave the club prematurely in May of this year. Following failed contract negotiations, he had previously informed Werder that he would be leaving the club in the summer of 2026. The Green-Whites quickly decided on a direct separation. "When you play against a former club, it's always something special, I've experienced it before. The preparation and on match day is normality because your thoughts are with your team," said Werner, who will be without central defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu (muscle injury).
