El Chataille Bitshiabu has extended his contract with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig on a long-term basis. The defender, who moved to Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, signed a new contract until June 30, 2029, Leipzig announced. "Chad has made great progress in all areas, especially in the past season," said Marcel Schäfer. The sporting director described the central defender as one of the "greatest defensive talents in the Bundesliga".
The central defender played 28 competitive matches, making 19 appearances in the starting eleven. Even without international games in the coming season, Bitshiabu feels comfortable in Leipzig because he has felt the trust of the club "in difficult phases".
Baum leaves for personal reasons
In contrast, head of youth development Manuel Baum is leaving the club after two years. Leipzig announced that the surprising separation will take place by mutual agreement on June 30. According to Schäfer, Baum had "initiated many things in our academy in the last two years": "We naturally respect his decision for personal reasons."
