Como owner confirms: No Fàbregas transfer to Leipzig

It's now official: Cesc Fàbregas will not become coach of RB Leipzig. The Spaniard has not been given the go-ahead by his club.

Cesc Fàbregas will not be the coach of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. Mirwan Suwarso, owner of Como 1907, the club coached by the Spaniard, made the announcement at an event in London. "We have a long-term project and Cesc Fàbregas is an essential part of it. He will not leave," said the Indonesian. Fàbregas sat next to Suwarso on the podium.

The Italian newspaper "La Repubblica" quoted the former Arsenal FC and FC Barcelona midfielder with similar words. "I started at this club because I was thinking of a long-term project. I really believe in Como's long-term project. I came here as a player and I'm very, very happy because I can work here the way I want," said the 38-year-old.

Klopp's efforts in vain

Fàbregas is still under contract with the promoted Premier League club until 2028. He is also a shareholder in the club. Leipzig had long sought to sign the 2010 world champion, and even global soccer boss Jürgen Klopp is said to have held talks. According to media reports, Fàbregas was not averse to a move to Saxony, even though the club will not be playing internationally for the first time since their promotion to the Bundesliga.

Como, who has made headlines this season with match visits from numerous Hollywood stars, refused to give his release, however. The club had previously done the same with Bayer Leverkusen. "Together we have become a really good team, in a small city, a small club, but with big ambitions for the future," said Fàbregas.

On Tuesday evening, the next rumors about Fàbregas emerged. Champions League finalists Inter Milan are said to be looking for him. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi had resigned and is facing a move to Saudi Arabia.
