Shortly before the start of the season after the short winter break, third division club FC Erzgebirge Aue and Bundesliga side 1. FC Union Berlin will meet in a test match. Both clubs have announced that the match will take place on January 5 at 6:30 pm at the Aue stadium. Union will officially start the new soccer year five days after the game against FSV Mainz 05, while Auer will travel to Rostock for the second half of the season on January 17.
It will be a special trip to the Erzgebirge for Union coach Steffen Baumgart. He celebrates his 54th birthday on that day.
