Defeat against Freiburg: Jena's women's soccer team relegated

The footballers from FC Carl Zeiss Jena are relegated from the Bundesliga. The last theoretical chance of staying in the league was lost in the match against SC Freiburg. The Thuringians lost the home game 1:5 (0:3). Svenja Fölmli (1.), Lisa Kolb (34.) and Ingibjörg Siguroardottir (42.) scored for the team from Freiburg before the break. In the second half, Sophie Nachtigall (62) and Fölmli again (87) added further SC goals. Isabell Jaron (63) scored the consolation goal for Jena. Jena were promoted to the Bundesliga two years ago.

Jena's last hope was effectively extinguished after just 38 seconds when they conceded the first goal. The team then played courageously forwards and had good chances to equalize through Olivia Alcaide (13) and Noemi Genitile (19). However, the 0:2 then clearly turned the game in Freiburg's direction. The hosts never gave up and fought until the final whistle. However, the Thuringians' resources were limited.
