The two countries want to continue to work together to promote the Sorbian language and traditions. The state representative from Potsdam sees exemplary cooperation.

Brandenburg and Saxony want to maintain their cooperation for the preservation of Sorbian culture. "Sorbian/Wendish culture, its traditions and languages connect the whole of Lusatia and therefore we are also well advised to always keep the entire region in mind in our activities and to coordinate our efforts," said Brandenburg state representative Tobias Dünow according to the press release. The cooperation between Brandenburg, Saxony and the Sorbian umbrella organization Domowina is an outstanding example of the preservation of cultural heritage.

Sorbian language and
culture can only be strengthened, promoted and further developed by working together, added Saxony's state commissioner Franziska Brech. "In this way, expertise can be exchanged and initiatives can be jointly aligned and coordinated."

A meeting between the two state commissioners on Monday focused on the introduction of the new Sorbian/Wendish course offerings at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) and the protection of minorities in Germany and Europe.

The discussion format creates the opportunity to reach an understanding on cross-state issues and topics, said Dawid Statnik, Chairman of Domowina. "Brandenburg and Saxony have proven several times in the past that they can achieve good things with action plans and binding objectives. I would like to build on this."
