Jürgen Klopp has announced his first squad as head coach of the German national team. For Dynamo fans, one name in particular stands out: Mika Baur. The former SGD player was unexpectedly named to the German national team.
Klopp Delivers Surprises Right Away
Jürgen Klopp is already delivering some surprises with his first DFB squad. In total, the new national team coach called up 44 players for the upcoming Nations League matches. One of them is Mika Baur, who currently plays for Celtic Glasgow and has thus been named to the German senior national team for the first time.
Baur is no stranger to Dynamo Dresden. In January 2025, the then-20-year-old joined SGD on loan from SC Paderborn. In the second half of the 2024–25 season, Baur played a total of 18 games for Dynamo in the 3. Liga. He scored one goal and recorded one assist.
From Dresden to Paderborn to Glasgow
After returning to Paderborn, Baur became an important part of the team. In the 2025–26 season, he played 33 Second Division matches, scoring four goals and recording six assists. Paderborn subsequently earned promotion to the Bundesliga. The club described Baur as a key player on the promotion-winning team.&
The next big step followed in August. Baur transferred to Scottish champions Celtic Glasgow and signed a long-term contract there.
Baur immediately made a name for himself in Scotland as well. In his eight competitive matches so far, he has scored one goal. He netted that goal in early September during a 1-0 away win against St. Johnstone.
Now the national team is calling
Baur has already gained experience with German youth national teams. He played for the U18, U19, U20, and most recently the U21 teams. Now comes the biggest step of his career so far: his first call-up to the senior national team.
For Dynamo fans, this development is particularly interesting. Just about a year and a half ago, Baur was playing for SGD in the 3. Liga. Now the 22-year-old is under contract with Celtic and is part of the German national team’s squad.
It remains to be seen whether Klopp will actually give Baur his debut in the upcoming Nations League matches. One thing is already certain, however: the former Dynamo loan player’s career has really picked up steam in recent months.
