Young international Assan Ouédraogo has suffered a serious setback in the battle for a World Cup ticket. The 19-year-old will be out for around two months with a knee injury. The midfielder from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig will therefore miss the last two international matches scheduled for the end of March before his nomination.
Ouédraogo suffered the injury during the 2-0 win against SC Freiburg last Wednesday. It is the same tendon problem that forced the teenager to sit out since the end of November until the end of last year. According to Leipzig, an operation is not planned.
Injury a "shock" for Leipzig
The DFB squad will face Switzerland in Basel on March 27, with national coach Julian Nagelsmann's team hosting Ghana in Stuttgart three days later. Ouédraogo made his national team debut in mid-November in the 6-0 win over Slovakia and scored shortly after coming on as a substitute.
"Assan's injury was indeed a shock for us after he had only just fought his way back into the team in recent weeks. His development so far this season has been so positive, and his debut for the national team was absolutely deserved and impressive," said RB sporting director Marcel Schäfer.
