1. FC Magdeburg have halted their downward trend after six games without a win in the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of coach Christian Titz won 2-0 (2-0) in the basement duel at Hansa Rostock on Sunday and increased its lead over the relegation place to five points. With four matchdays to go until the end of the season, there are now many signs that Magdeburg will stay in the relegation zone.
In front of 27,500 fans at the Ostseestadion, a mistake by the hosts brought FCM into the game. Luca Schuler (18th minute) picked up a misplaced pass into the center from John-Patrick Strauß and scored his first goal since the end of November. Daniel Heber (40') also caused a Magdeburg rarity with his header.
Magdeburg's possession-oriented style of play posed problems for Rostock, especially after going behind. The Hanseatic side never really got back into the game and Schuler (26) even scored a second goal. However, referee Daniel Schlager disallowed the goal for offside.
