SC DHfK Leipzig has been given a sign of hope in the Bundesliga basement. National player Semper remains loyal to the team currently bottom of the table.

Franz Semper is staying with SC DHfK Leipzig. The backcourt player has extended his contract with the bottom club in the German Handball League until 2028, the club announced. Apart from a three-year stint in Flensburg from 2020 to 2023, the international has spent his entire professional career in Leipzig. The club did not provide any information on further contract modalities with possible exit clauses.

"Leipzig is my sporting home. I grew up here, played my first Bundesliga games here - and of course I want to help us continue on our path in the coming years," said Semper. "I firmly believe in this team and that we'll have positive memories of the 2025/26 season in the end. We want to take the first step towards that on Saturday in Wuppertal."

Leipzig have one point after nine league games, but reached the last 16 in the cup with an away win at Frisch Auf Göppingen.
