Replacement goalkeeper Lennart Grill is leaving Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin to join second-division side Dynamo Dresden. "We are delighted that Lennart has decided to join us. With his quality and experience from playing in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, he has everything we need to strengthen our goalkeeping team and raise the level even further," said Dresden's sporting director Thomas Brendel, explaining the signing.
It is questionable whether Grill (26) will be promoted to number one at the promoted Saxon club and thus get significantly more playing time than at Köpenick. He will have to assert himself against Tim Schreiber and Daniel Mesenhöfer. Since his move to Berlin in 2022, Grill has not played a major role for the Irons. He has only kept the FCU goal eight times. Most recently, the former U21 international was on loan in the Bundesliga 2, first at VfL Osnabrück, then at Eintracht Braunschweig and during the second half of the 2024/25 season at Greuther Fürth.
"We wanted to meet his wish for a clear sporting perspective and wish him every success and all the best, both professionally and privately," said Horst Heldt, Union's managing director of professional soccer.
Grill successor at Union close to signing
A replacement for Grill has probably already been found at Union. According to reports, goalkeeper Matheo Raab is set to move to the capital from Hamburger SV to complement regular keeper Frederik Rönnow. According to Sky information, the Berliners have already reached an agreement with Raab and organized a date for the obligatory medical check for this Thursday.
