Dynamo Dresden won the prestigious Elb-Clásico and dragged 1. FC Magdeburg back into the fight to stay in the league. In the 2:1 (2:1) victory, the Saxons gained revenge for the 1:2 defeat in the first half of the season. Mateusz Zukowski had put the hosts ahead after 29 minutes in front of 27,815 spectators. Kofi Amoako (34) with his first Dynamo goal and Thomas Keller (45.+3) turned the game around before the break.
Dresden, who wore a special black shirt to mark the 75th birthday of club legend Hans-Jürgen "Dixie" Dörner, who died in 2022, started very offensively and had the first good opportunity through Jakob Lemmer (5). It took the hosts 20 minutes to adjust to the visitors' high pressing. After a counter-attack, Zukowski (22) hit the inside of the post, seven minutes later he did better. Dresden's Jonas Sterner underhit a long cross, Baris Atik fed the Pole, who scored strongly.
The Saxons hit back after a corner kick, however, with Amoako first failing to clear the crossbar before scoring. He is Dresden's 100th second division goalscorer. And he was also involved in the lead. FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann could only fist away his cross, also from a corner kick, and Keller was in the right place to convert.
Magdeburg with more of the play after the break
After the break, Magdeburg took the initiative. They repeatedly combined up to the penalty area and then tried to score from the second row. However, they were too sloppy for a long time. Very little came from the visitors going forward; instead, they tried to defend their lead by retreating into their own half. Vincent Vermeij (75) had the chance to make it 3:1 with a counter-attack, but Reimann cleared with a foot save.
The Dynamo defense, which had many legs, repeatedly had the better of the wildly attacking hosts. A Marcus Mathisen header in the 9th minute of stoppage time had the crowd screaming for a goal, but Dynamo goalkeeper Tim Schreiber reacted superbly. In the final minute, the Magdeburg man put the ball over the goal.
