RB Leipzig are under pressure in the top match of the Bundesliga on Saturday (18:30/Sky) against Borussia Dortmund. If they do not want to lose sight of the Champions League starting places for the coming season, they urgently need a sense of achievement against the runners-up. Although this is statistically possible, it is not necessarily to be expected after the recent results crisis against the so-called "little ones".
"Borussia is a top team in terms of quality and the way they do things. It's not hurray soccer every week, but it's extremely successful," said RB coach Ole Werner in the matchday press conference about the opponents, assigning Dortmund the role of favorites. "But we know that we can also do something. We want to show that, we want to prevail and inflict BVB's second defeat of the season in the Bundesliga. That requires a top performance, but we're confident of that, even though we know what our opponents are capable of," said Werner.
A top performance is particularly necessary in Leipzig's build-up play. The goals conceded by RB in the past were largely the result of mistakes in possession. "Especially against Dortmund, with their good reversal players, it's important to keep possession clean. We have to control our own possession and have determination. But you also have to defend physically," said Werner.
And, above all, react faster and better to ball losses in the build-up. "Our problem is more the mistakes in possession than in the game against the ball," emphasized the RB coach, who can once again count on Castello Lukeba in central defense against Dortmund. David Raum, who was recently suspended for yellow cards, is also available again.
