For Timo Werner, the season at Tottenham Hotspur is over. The attacker, who was loaned to London by RB Leipzig, is out injured in the final phase of the English soccer championship. As coach Ange Postecoglou confirmed on Wednesday, Werner suffered an injury to his thigh muscle last Sunday in the 2:3 North London derby against league leaders Arsenal FC. The 28-year-old had to be substituted after just half an hour.
Werner joined the London club on loan from Leipzig at the start of the year. He wanted to recommend himself for a place in the German squad for this summer's European Championship. He played the last of his 57 international matches to date in March 2023 in the 2:3 draw against Belgium.
"With just three weeks left to play, he won't be coming back," Postecoglou said of Werner. Spurs have five games left in the Premier League, the next of which is against Chelsea FC this Thursday. Currently fifth in the table, Tottenham are fighting to qualify for the European Cup.
