The Bundesliga handball club Thüringer HC has started the new year with an away win. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller defeated second-placed HSG Bensheim/Auerbach 31:29 (12:14) in the top game on Saturday evening. Rikke Hoffbeck Petersen was the best scorer for THC, which is now fourth in the table with 13:7 points, with six goals.
The club from Thuringia got into the game right away and led 3:0 after four minutes, but then repeatedly failed to score against Bensheim's goalkeeper Vanessa Fehr, who made eleven saves up to the break. However, the THC managed to contain the home side's fast-paced play for long stretches and so trailed by just two goals at half-time.
The visitors produced a 4:1 run at the start of the second half to take a 16:15 lead (34') and then continued to find good solutions in attack. The THC pulled 26:23 ahead by the 50th minute, before Bensheim fought its way back and tied the scores at 29:29 in the 58th minute. However, the Thuringians showed the stronger nerves in the final attacks and so deservedly secured victory.
