Thüringer HC's women's handball team falls back in the Bundesliga after another defeat. In Blomberg, a weak defensive performance was their undoing.

The women's handball club Thüringer HC has suffered its second defeat in succession in the German league. Four days after the unfortunate 22:23 loss to leaders HB Ludwigsburg, the team of Head Coach Herbert Müller also lost 31:36 (15:16) at HSG Blomberg-Lippe on Wednesday evening in the chasing duel.

In front of 816 spectators, Johanna Reichert was the best scorer for THC, which slipped to fourth place with 29:13 points. Blomberg improved to third place (29:11) after its tenth home win in a row.

THC can no longer close the gap

The Thuringians got off to a sluggish start to the game and were unable to get into their usual attacking rhythm. Goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle initially prevented Blomberg from opening up an early gap with strong saves. As the game progressed, however, the home side became increasingly successful in opening up gaps in the heart of the THC's defense.

They pulled 11:7 ahead by the 20th minute thanks to their improved exploitation of chances. Müller reacted with a timeout and now consistently brought on a seventh field player in attack. This measure paid off. The Thuringians stalked back to within one goal by the break.

After the break, Blomberg stepped up the pace considerably, played more energetically than the THC and extended its lead to 26:21 in the 43rd minute. The visitors did not give up and fought their way back to 30:32 (56'), but the HSG did not allow itself to be put off and deserved to win.
