The women's handball club Thüringer HC suffered its sixth defeat of the season in the German league. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller lost 22:33 (13:12) to leaders Borussia Dortmund in front of its home crowd on Wednesday evening after a weak second half. Johanna Reichert, Jana Scheib and Anna Szabo were the best scorers for THC, who are now fourth in the table with 21:13 points, in front of 1,328 spectators with five goals each.
The club from Thuringia quickly took a 2:0 lead, but then went almost eight minutes without scoring against the compact BVB defense and fell behind. It was not until midway through the first half that the home side began to pick up the pace, while the league leaders made an unusual number of technical errors. The THC recaptured a narrow lead by the break.
After the break, the visitors stepped up their attacking level considerably. The THC initially held on, but when BVB's national goalkeeper Sarah Wachter became increasingly strong, the favorites produced an 8:0 run to pull 29:20 ahead in the 52nd minute. The dismayed club from Thuringia was then unable to put the result beyond doubt.
