The women's handball team of Thüringer HC has made a successful start to the new Bundesliga season. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller defeated the newly promoted SV Union Halle-Neustadt 32:25 (17:13) in the duel in the East. In front of 1,207 spectators, Johanna Reichert was the THC's best scorer with seven goals - all from the seven-meter spot. Returning goalkeeper Laura Kuske also impressed with 14 saves. Cara Reuthal scored five times for Halle.
Eight days after their triumph in the Supercup, the Thuringians got off to a furious start and led 9:4 after just twelve minutes. The hosts dominated with their fast and varied attacking play up to 16:9 (23rd minute), before their concentration waned considerably. Coach Ines Seidler's team, which fought with self-sacrifice, consistently punished the THC's mistakes and worked its way back to 18:21 (40'). It was only in the final spell that the favorites found their game again and pulled 30:23 ahead in the 54th minute.
