The Bundesliga handball club Thüringer HC has taken a big step closer to the quarter-finals of the European League. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller defeated Motherson Mosonmagyarovari KC by a clear 34:24 (15:12) in front of its home crowd and so moved past the Hungarian club to take second place in Group A. Johanna Reichert scored 14 goals to become the best scorer for the defending champions, who had lost the first leg 34:36.
In the second leg, both teams initially placed much more emphasis on defense. The Thuringians got off to an energetic start and quickly took a 3:0 lead (4th minute), but then increasingly struggled to create clear-cut chances. However, they prevented the momentum from shifting with their compact defense. Thanks to Reichert, who was virtually unstoppable in one-on-one situations, the THC went into the break with a lead.
After the break, the home side stepped up the pace in attack and extended its lead to six goals (24:18) by the 45th minute. The Hungarians did not give up, but the THC remained focused and pulled 29:21 ahead in the 54th minute.
