ThSV Eisenach suffered its fifth defeat of the season. The Bundesliga handball club lost 32:34 (17:14) at VfL Gummersbach despite a committed first half. Despite the defeat, Eisenach's international Marko Grgic was the best scorer with eleven goals.
The visitors from Thuringia got off to a much better start and led 4:1 after just five minutes. As in the previous game against Erlangen, Eisenach goalkeeper Matija Spikic stood out with his save rate of 50 percent at times. Whereas the court players allowed Gummersbach to close the gap with a number of missed shots and conceded seven-meter penalties, Spikic secured the visitors a 17:14 halftime lead.
The home side came out of the break extremely well and lived up to its role as favorites for the first time in the game. They tied the scores at 17:17 after just two minutes. The Eisenach team seemed to be completely caught off guard by the stronger Gummersbach side, which scored six goals in a row. Eisenach also incurred too many two-minute penalties, which Gummersbach knew how to exploit. Even though the Eisenach team pulled itself together again towards the end and showed character, it lost 32:34.
