The third division match between 1. FC Saarbrücken and Dynamo Dresden on Sunday was canceled after 45 minutes at 0-0 due to weather conditions. After it had rained continuously in Saarbrücken over the past few days, the pitch at Ludwigsparkstadion was simply no longer playable. That was the decision of referee Arne Aarnink after a lengthy deliberation during the halftime break. "The deciding factor was that regular play was no longer possible. Situations obliegen towards the end of the first half more and more to chance, which has also increased the risk of injury to the players," the impartial explained his decision.
"In the case, there is no right or wrong decision. It is after this first half to accept absolutely that here no more regular soccer game is possible," said Dresden's sports director Ralf Becker. The abandonment of the match nevertheless has a stale aftertaste for the Black and Yellows. "We have the longest journey here, 2000 fans with us, we already wanted to play the game," Becker affirmed. Jürgen Luginger, Saarbrücken's sports director, nevertheless correctly classified that the game had "little to do with soccer."
