Thick air at RB Leipzig: Raum criticizes teammates

The late equalizer from Borussia Dortmund is difficult to accept for RB Leipzig captain David Raum. "In the end, we have to put our egos behind us and make sure we get through this together. Everyone has to invest everything in that," said the international after the 2:2 draw. "Everyone has to make sure that they personally put themselves at the service of the team and simply do everything they can at the back to get the result over time."

The goal is to qualify for the Champions League. That's what supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff said in the middle of the month - since then, RB has not won two games. Leipzig are currently fifth and could be four points off fourth place in the top flight after the 23rd Bundesliga matchday. Christoph Baumgartner (20th/39th minute) had given Leipzig the lead, Romulo (50th) with an own goal and Fabio Silva (90th+5th) scored for BVB.

No pressure from Mintzlaff's announcement

Raum does not see Mintzlaff's demand for the top flight as an obstacle. "Since I started playing here at Leipzig, that has always been the goal. Oli is a very ambitious person, always has very big goals and I think that's what you should set yourself," said the 27-year-old. "We definitely have the quality and my ambition is definitely to play in the Champions League."

Double goalscorer Baumgartner said in response to Raum's criticism that he was "the captain, he's allowed to say things like that". Ultimately, he said, "we've simply had too many games in which we lead and then don't get the result. Then it just becomes incredibly difficult to be at the top of the Bundesliga." Leipzig have already failed to pick up a total of 18 points because they didn't come out on top after taking the lead.
