The shot put competitions will kick off the German Indoor Athletics Championships in Leipzig this Friday evening (18:00). The discipline is being brought forward in order to put it in the spotlight at the start. In addition, two-time shot put world champion David Storl will be given a worthy setting for his farewell. The 33-year-old from Leipzig officially ended his career this week.
The main program will then follow on Saturday and Sunday. One of the highlights will be the women's long jump with Malaika Mihambo. The Olympic champion, who has returned from a long injury break, will face strong German competition. European sprint champion Gina Lückenkemper, who is not competing in the indoor season in the Olympic year, will not be competing. The World Championships from March 1 to 3 in Glasgow will be the conclusion and highlight of the indoor season. Only a small German contingent will be competing there.
