At Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, training is not only in full swing ahead of the DFB Cup at SV Sandhausen on Saturday (3.30 pm/Sky). There is also a lot of activity behind the scenes - above all to give coach Ole Werner a manageable squad. However, following the departures of Yussuf Poulsen (Hamburger SV) and Benjamin Sesko (Manchester United), the coach is still looking for a striker.
But before that comes, other players are likely to leave. André Silva has been linked with a move to Werder Bremen for days. One of RB's top earners wants and should move. The Saxons are probably now prepared to pay him a compensation package and thus also accommodate their Bundesliga rivals.
Can buyers be found for Werner and Co?
The departure of Amadou Haidara could also be completed soon. The 27-year-old, who has been at Leipzig since January 2019, is likely to move to RB's sister club Paris FC in France, according to several media reports. Other candidates for sale include Timo Werner, Kevin Kampl and Lukas Klostermann.
A new striker name every day
According to media reports, a return of former top star Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea FC is possible. There is also speculation about RB's interest in Denmark's Conrad Harde. Brazilian Romulo from Turkish first division club Göztepe and Fabio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers are also considered candidates. Both are 23 years young and therefore fit Leipzig's requirement profile perfectly, although only one of them is financially viable for RB.
However, a hot lead could also lead to Liverpool FC, where Harvey Elliot is said to have sparked RB's interest. The attacking midfielder, who was named the best player at the European Under-21 Championships, was once promoted by Jürgen Klopp, the current global head of soccer at Red Bull.
RB needs the proceeds from the sale of Simons
The sale of Xavi Simons remains open. The Dutchman is said to have already reached an agreement with Chelsea FC, but the club's world champions still need to get rid of a few high-profile players in order to be able to pay the estimated €70 million. It is unlikely that Simons will be swapped for Nkunku. However, it is possible that Nkunku will return to the Saxons on loan.
