The sea lions at Leipzig Zoo have completed their second mission as animal oracles for the European Championships - and are clearly betting on a German victory against Hungary. Sea lioness Sissi had the choice between a bucket for Germany and one for Hungary. She maneuvered a ball "unerringly" into the German bucket, reports zoo director Jörg Junhold. The German national soccer team plays Hungary on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Leipzig Zoo also corrected the sea lions' first European Championship tip. Last week, sea lioness Hilla had scored a goal for Scotland and one for Germany in quick succession, which was interpreted as a draw. The oracle was wrong, Germany won 5:1.
The tip has now been evaluated retrospectively and the video assistant has been consulted, said Junhold. It could be seen that the first shot had been taken before kick-off and was therefore invalid. Therefore, the first tip of the Californian sea lions was also a prediction of the German victory.
