After a strong comeback, the Bundesliga handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig just missed a victory in the East derby against SC Magdeburg. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson wrestled a 27:27 (10:15) from the Champions League winner on Sunday afternoon in front of 5763 spectators. For SC DHfK, Icelander Viggo Kristjansson stood out with seven goals. Coach Bennet Wiegert's team had its best scorer in Albin Lagergren (eight goals). While the SCM with now 9:3 points is unchanged third, the Leipziger (3:7) improved on rank 13.
After the break, the hosts continued to fight their way back. With the advanced Matej Mamic in the defense, they disrupted the Magdeburg game structure, in addition, the substitute goalkeeper Domenico Ebner developed into a decisive factor. In the 55th minute, Simon Ernst equalized at 25:25, before ex-Magdeburg player Moritz Preuss put the hosts in front for the first time since the 1:0 at 27:26 (57th). In the hectic final phase, Omar Ingi Magnusson equalized for SCM. With the last attack, the Leipzigers had the chance to win, but Luca Witzke stuck.
