The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team recorded its third win in its third home game of the Bundesliga season. The team of Head Coach Runar Sigtryggsson defeated the previously loss-free Rhein-Neckar Löwen 28:27 (13:13) in front of 4117 spectators after an impressive display of energy. The best scorer for SC DHfK, who now have 6:2 points, was right winger Staffan Peter with seven goals. Ivan Martinovic scored nine times for the Lions, who missed the jump to the top of the table. 84 seconds before the end, national player Luca Witzke scored the winning goal. The Lions' last attack fizzled out due to an offensive foul by Martinovic.
The Leipzig side initially built on the convincing performances from the two previous home games. Their powerful attacking play and a strong display by goalkeeper Kristian Saeveras, who saved six of the first ten shots on goal, earned them an 8:4 lead after 13 minutes. The fact that the Lions did not get into the game was also due to the fact that director Juri Knorr was hardly able to escape Marko Mamic's intense guarding. Leipzig had the game safely under control up to 12:7 (21st minute) before David Späth hit top form for the visitors. The international goalkeeper unnerved Leipzig's scorers in succession and so laid the foundation for a 6:0 run by the Lions to make it 13:12 in the 27th minute.
