The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team has achieved its first win of the Bundesliga season at the 16th attempt. The team of coach Frank Carstens defeated HSV Hamburg 29:27 (15:13). National player Franz Semper was the best scorer for SC DHfK, which is still bottom of the table with 5:27 points, with eight goals in front of 3,810 spectators.
Slovenian Dean Bombac, who only signed on Monday, made his debut for Leipzig and immediately took charge of the game. Despite an early red card for Lukas Binder, the home side got off to the better start (5:2) and controlled large stretches of the first half without being able to open up a significant gap.
As HSV made more technical mistakes after the break, Leipzig pulled 24:18 ahead in the 43rd minute. However, the home side became increasingly sloppy in the final spell and Hamburg was able to reduce the deficit. Only a save by the strong goalkeeper Tomas Mrkva 27 seconds before the end ended the trembling. Mrvka saved a total of 13 shots.
