The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team have bowed out of the Bundesliga with a home win. The team of coach Frank Carstens narrowly beat GWD Minden 26:25 (18:14) on Sunday and thus sealed the relegation of the Minden team.
In front of 6,000 spectators, national player Franz Semper was the best scorer for SC DHfK, who had already been confirmed as the first team to be relegated. After the game, Leipzig bid farewell to nine players. Lucas Krzikalla, who had been with the club for 16 years, was particularly in the spotlight.
Leipzig got off to a furious start and quickly took a 3:0 lead, after which an open exchange of blows developed. Minden reduced the deficit to 12:13 at one stage, before the home side produced a 5:0 run to open up a six-goal gap. After the break, Leipzig increasingly lost momentum in offense.
The visitors now looked much more effective and equalized through the former Leipzig player Niclas Heitkamp to make it 22:22 in the 45th minute. In the hectic final spell, the Minden club made more and more mistakes. Nevertheless, they still had the chance to equalize with the last attack, but Jakub Sterba only hit the post two seconds before the end.
