Saxony is once again investing in the Altenberg artificial ice rink. Interior Minister Schuster speaks of a "clear commitment to the location" and wants to further strengthen winter sports.

Saxony wants to support the Altenberg artificial ice rink in the Eastern Ore Mountains with a further 50,000 euros. Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) handed over the decision to Wintersport Altenberg GmbH on the sidelines of the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Cup.

"The Altenberg artificial ice rink has been a central location for winter sports in Saxony for decades," said Schuster according to the press release. This year, the state government is once again focusing on targeted funding to strengthen top-class sport in the region. According to Schuster, this continuous support is "a clear commitment to the location, to our athletes and to the clubs".

According to this, the measures are co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.

The ice track is an established venue in the national and international competition calendar. The artificial ice rink was officially inaugurated in 1987 and regularly hosts international competitions, including World Cups, European Cups and World Championships.
