RB Leipzig could be in line for unexpected income in the millions in the final phase of the transfer window. As transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports, Liverpool FC would like to sign Lutsharel Geertruida and are already in negotiations.
Leipzig have currently loaned Geertruida to Sunderland FC, who reportedly have an option to buy him for €20 million. The club from the north-west of England could exercise this option and sell Geertruida on to Liverpool at a higher price. According to "The Athletic", the loan to Sunderland could also be terminated and Geertruida could then be loaned out to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old had established himself as a regular for the promoted side, but has failed to make an appearance in the last three games. Liverpool coach Arne Slot is currently short of personnel in defense due to long-term injuries and knows Geertruida from their time together at Feyenoord Rotterdam.
The defender was captain of the team there before moving to Leipzig for €20 million in the summer of 2024. There, however, the Dutch international was never able to live up to the expectations placed in him.
