Peter Gulacsi only regained his regular place in goal for RB Leipzig in February. The Saxons did not lose a game in the league with him. Now a decision is to be made about his future.

According to a media report, Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig is on the verge of extending its contract with goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. The contract with the Hungarian international, which expires in 2025, is to be extended ahead of schedule, as reported by the newspaper "Bild". Sports director Rouven Schröder and the Gulacsi side have agreed on this. In the coming season, the 34-year-old and Belgian newcomer Maarten Vandevoordt will compete for the role of regular goalkeeper. Janis Blaswich may leave the club.

Gulacsi only regained his starting place in February. In October 2022, the veteran had been set back by a cruciate ligament rupture. Blaswich had stood in for him perfectly during this time and was rewarded with an invitation to the national team last fall. However, Blaswich's performance deteriorated and Gulacsi moved back into goal. Since then, Leipzig have not lost a game in the Bundesliga.

Gulacsi had already emphasized in a recent interview with "Bild" that he did not want to enter the final year of his contract. "We have agreed that there will definitely be a clear decision in the summer regarding the future. At my age, you need a bit of planning security, for your career and for your family," said Gulacsi. "The 2026 World Cup is in the USA and of course my goal is to still be in goal there."
