RB Leipzig is pressing ahead with its squad planning. Benjamin Henrichs is the next player to extend his contract.

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig wants to extend the contract with international Benjamin Henrichs. "Benni knows that we want to continue with him. We have therefore made him a very, very respectful offer," said sporting director Rouven Schröder in an interview with "Kicker" (Tuesday). The 27-year-old defender's contract with the Saxons expires in 2025. "Both sides have agreed not to enter the final year of his contract," explained Schröder. This also makes it clear that if no agreement is reached, Henrichs will leave after this season.

The Leipzig club recently extended the contracts of Amadou Haidara, Willi Orban, Kevin Kampl, Yussuf Poulsen and Lukas Klostermann. Qualifying for the Champions League again would be important for further squad planning. However, RB is currently only fifth in the table. "One thing or another will depend on which competition we end up playing in," said Schröder (48). They are very well prepared, "we have expressed our interest to candidates. But RB Leipzig will always have a very exciting, young and hungry squad regardless of that."

Can RB keep Simons?

If possible, this should also include midfield engine Xavi Simons. However, Paris Saint-Germain are likely to bring the 20-year-old Dutch international back after his one-year loan in view of his strong performances. "He feels fundamentally at home with us. And when the time comes after the season, we will intensify our fight for him," said Schröder.

The fact that Spain international Dani Olmo (25) is the focus of top clubs despite having a contract until 2027 and could leave early is something Schröder is relaxed about. "He hasn't just been here for six months and is just passing through, he's been playing for us for four years now. On the other hand, it's clear that difference-makers like Dani are in demand everywhere," said the RB sporting director.

Schröder also has the continued collaboration with coach Marco Rose, whose contract expires next year, on his agenda. "We have a great relationship and are in constant and close contact. The time will come when we will also talk about it."
