The RB Leipzig women's footballers are completely off the rails. In the first game of the second half of the season, the Leipzig side lost 1:1 (0:0) to 1. FC Köln after a poor performance. RB had won the first leg 2:0 on the first Bundesliga matchday in Cologne. It was the fifth league defeat in a row for coach Jonas Stephan's team. The last win came on November 6 in a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Carl Zeiss Jena. RB dropped to eleventh place in the table.
Sandra Maria Jessen (48th minute) gave Cologne a deserved lead in front of 854 spectators at the Stadion am Cottaweg. The hosts hardly had any attacking options. Martyna Wiankowska (45.+2) had the visitors' best chance, but RB goalkeeper Elvira Herzog saved the ball from halfway.
After the changeover, Jessen (47) headed the ball onto the underside of the crossbar. But a minute later, the goalscorer pushed the ball over the line after an extended shot from close range. Leipzig had a chance to equalize thanks to substitute Kyra Spitzner (75'), but her shot landed directly into the arms of the Cologne keeper.
