RB Leipzig's female soccer players struggle against Essen

After four games without a win in a row, RB Leipzig's women's footballers have celebrated their second win of the season in the Bundesliga. Coach Jonas Stephan's team came away with a laborious 2:1 (2:0) win against bottom-of-the-table SGS Essen. Giovanna Hoffmann took the lead after just four minutes at the Cottaweg training center. The international had to be substituted with an injury in the second half.

The Essen side, who had made a coaching change during the week following their 8-0 defeat at home to VfL Wolfsburg, competed well and created chances. However, Julia Landenberger's second RB goal in the 39th minute gave them a sense of security.

However, Essen, who only have one point to their name, came close with a dream goal from Paulina Platner from around 30 meters out (53') and became increasingly courageous. Leipzig withdrew more and more and were lucky shortly before the end that Essen's Natasha Kowalski's shot landed just wide of the post.
