Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is apparently close to signing Maxime Esteve. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the French center back is set to be pried away from Premier League relegation side FC Burnley for a total transfer fee of up to 32 million euros. Sky also reported on the story. RB will begin preseason training on Monday under new head coach Martin Demichelis.
The 24-year-old Esteve is a quick left-footed player who was initially loaned by his home club Montpellier to Burnley in the spring of 2024. The English club then signed the 1.93-meter-tall player on a permanent basis and gave him a contract through 2030.
RB has generally had good experiences with French defenders so far. Ibrahima Konaté, who just transferred to Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano are just a few examples. Currently, the Saxon club has two French defenders on its roster—Castello Lukeba and El Chadaille Bitshiabu—though transfer rumors are swirling around both of them.
