- Although fifth place will probably be enough to qualify for the Champions League, RB Leipzig want to play it safe. A win against Borussia Dortmund would give them a five-point lead in fourth place with two matchdays to go and a significantly better goal difference over fifth-placed BVB. It would be a preliminary decision.
- BVB striker Niclas Füllkrug is in top form, recently scoring against champions Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid. He has a good record against Leipzig in the Bundesliga, scoring three times in five matches. However, Füllkrug ended up losing all of these games.
- Leipzig's 3:2 win in Dortmund in the first half of the season was one of the rare games without a goal from Lois Openda. The Belgian has scored 23 goals in 30 Bundesliga games so far. The 24-year-old is still five goals short of Timo Werner's club record from the 2019/20 season.
- Leipzig have been unbeaten in the Bundesliga for seven games, picking up 19 out of a possible 21 points. In this period since March 2, Leipzig are the best team in the league.
