Humanity comes before sport for RB Leipzig's Marco Rose. As reported by Bild, the coach of the Bundesliga club traveled to his old home in Willich near Gladbach on Friday morning to help a boy suffering from leukaemia before playing a test match with his team against fourth division side Babelsberg (1:0) in the afternoon.

"When you have children yourself, you drop everything to ensure the health of your own and other children," said the 47-year-old. "Then soccer is just a minor matter." The 15-year-old in question is a Gladbach fan and got to know Rose during his time with the Foals (2019-2021). His father, himself a paediatrician, diagnosed the illness in June.

"Anyone can help"

"Many people know that a bone marrow donation can save lives. Nevertheless, we should always point this out. Anyone can help, anyone can register, anyone can donate," said Rose, who has already donated bone marrow himself. "Niklas is an outstanding footballer, but not quite fit at the moment. We all want him to get fit and healthy again quickly. It's all about Niklas. I hope we can get a few people to register."

Rose is always involved in good causes and supports aid projects. Last December, he visited children with cancer in hospital in Leipzig and called for donations.
