Olympic canoeing champion Ronald Rauhe has been elected to the Athletes' Commission of the European Olympic Committees. This was announced by the German Canoe Association (DKV) on Tuesday. The 42-year-old Rauhe, who ended his successful career with gold in the four-man kayak at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, was elected to the committee by the European athletes' representatives in Rome.

"I am delighted to have been elected to the EOC Athletes' Commission and that I can now contribute the many positive experiences that I have had at six Olympic Games and that sport as a whole has given me to the committee work at European level," said the 16-time world champion from Berlin, who won the election for summer sports together with Serbian shooter Zorana Arunovic and Slovakian archer Alexandra Miskovska from a total of eleven candidates. The Estonian biathlete Johanna Taliharm was chosen for winter sports. The first congratulations came from Thomas Weikert, President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB): "With Ronald, we can send one of our most experienced athletes to the commission. We wish him success in representing the concerns of the athletes with dedication and are also delighted about the further strengthening of our international network."
