RB Leipzig always put in a decent performance against BVB. The statistics prove that. But is the defense solid enough? Coach Ole Werner will have to do without two veterans in the squad.

The top match at Borussia Dortmund will be a new yardstick for RB Leipzig. After winning four Bundesliga games in a row, the Saxons face a difficult task this Saturday (3.30pm/Sky) after losing 6-0 at FC Bayern in the season opener. "Dortmund are very stable. We have to reach our maximum performance. That applies to all parameters, tactical, mental, playful. We have to be top in all areas, that's the bar we set," said RB head coach Ole Werner, who will be without Kevin Kampl, who is ill, and Timo Werner (muscular problems) in the squad.

BVB with "top quality in all positions"

A major focus of training recently has been defensive work. "We are still working on defensive stability. That's the area where we have the most room for improvement. That's why 90 minutes of work against the ball is important," emphasized Werner. It was impossible to defend against BVB, who beat Bilbao 4-1 in the Champions League, anyway. "That's what you call quality. The opponent has top quality in all positions, so we also have to defend with top quality."

BVB have also won four Bundesliga games in a row recently without conceding a goal. Leipzig conceded one goal in their 3-1 defeat to Cologne. On a positive note for the Saxons, Leipzig have won seven of their nine competitive matches against Dortmund since losing the cup final in May 2021.

The last defeat for Dortmund, who are unbeaten in 13 Bundesliga matches, also came at RB on 15 March. The Saxons won 2-0 at home in the previous season.
